Banjul — The tremendous social, economic and demographic changes that are taking place around the world today place adolescents and youth at crossroads. Young people aged between 15 and 24 constitute over a billion of today's population. One of the challenges facing society is to provide them the support they need to realise their full potential to contribute and participate in the social, economic, political and cultural life of their communities.

Adolescence is a time of rapid personal, physiological, social and emotional developments. It is a time of learning about gender roles, life options and life skills, as well as about sexuality and relationships.
