UN officials are warning of a human catastrophe in the north following an influx of internally displaced people in Gulu.
United Nations Development Programme Country Representative, Daouda Toure, and United Nations Development Fund for Women Executive Director, Noeleen Heyzer spoke to the press yesterday at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
Toure said he would today meet the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Refugees and Disaster Preparedness Brig. Moses Ali over the crisis.
"There could be a catastrophe in the north. These refugees should at least have access to food, water and shelter, I will meet the Second Deputy Prime Minister and minister in charge of Disaster Preparedness to discuss these issues with him tomorrow [today]," he said.
Thousands of people fearing Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army rebels have camped at St Mary's Hospital Lacor in Gulu.
