RUBAGA South Member of Parliament John Ken Lukyamuzi has challenged the Government to justify the presence of Sudanese refugees in his constituency.
He said, "As far as I am concerned, the Government knows about their presence. I challenge it to come out and tell the nation why and how they found themselves here."
Speaking in Luganda to residents of Kabowa at Kabowa Church of Uganda Primary School on Sunday, Lukyamuzi said the Sudanese presence in his constituency was a public concern that needed immediate attention.
"We are not against them. We don't reject them as people. We like people. But it should be made clear. The Government should come out on the matter and clearly tell us why and how they came," Lukyamuzi said.
Residents said they were living in fear due to the large numbers of the foreigners, believed to be part of Col. Dr. John Garang's SPLA who have been fighting in Sudan for over two decades.
Lukyamuzi said he made inquiries about their presence in the area but nobody had confirmed whether they were refugees or not.
