Nigeria: 122 Cultists Identified in Port Harcourt

Port Harcourt — The Rivers State Police Command has swung into action, by exposing those alleged to be cultists at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.

The latest clampdown on cultists operating in the institution came after days of bloodbath in the institution.

The cult clash which was between two rival cult groups in the school, the Black Axe and Vikings, generated fear and tension among students of the institution.

Already, the state police command has indentified 122 cult students of the university and they are drawn from various departments, including Estate Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Architecture, Law amongst others.

In a statement in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Ireju Barasua, directed those whose names have been mentioned to report for what she called "clarification".

Though she did not explain what she meant by "clarification, sources said the identified cult students are in for a rude shock, especially when viewed against the background that recent activities of the secret cult members have turned the institution into a theatre of war, leading to the loss of many lives. Most of the identified cultists, according to the PPRO's statement, are believed to be 400 and 300 Level students of the university.

Following the release of the names of the cultists, some students of the institution have commended the police for taking the bold step to stop the carnage.
