DESPITE the failure of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the registration of voters and the review of voters' register for the August 10, 2002 local government polls, the Akwa Ibom State Government says it is ready to conduct the elections.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ita Awak told newsmen at the end of a State Executive Council meeting in Uyo that the decision of government to go ahead with the election was aimed at 'encouraging Nigeria to practice true federalism."
