OVER 122 children from Pader district have taken refugee in Kotido district, following last week's attack on Achol pii refugee camp by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA)rebels.
"I will go to Kotido to assess the situation of our 122 children," Pader woman MP Santa Okot told women hailing from the district but resident in Kampala at Naguru Community Centre, last Sunday.
Okot had convened the meeting to brief women on efforts to bring peace to the north.
She appealed to UNICEF and other NGOs to rescue the children, saying the most urgently required items were food, blankets and clothing.
The women asked the government to involve them in the peace process. "We have a lot of influence over men. We can carry out peace talks successfully and bring peace to our district and the Acholi sub-region," said Alice Acan on behalf of the group. Ends
