The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) in alliance with all religious leaders has launched a countrywide emergency appeal to assist the displaced people in northern Uganda.
The appeal was launched at the URCS headquarters on Lumumba avenue at a press conference attended by the religious from the Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox and SDA churches and the Muslim community. The ICRC and Rotary International officials attended.
The President of the URCS retired Bishop Edward Baharagate said the emergency appeal would cater for over 100,000 people displaced in the districts of Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and Adjumani by the rebels of the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) led by Joseph Kony.
"We look forward to your supporting us as we mobilise the power of humanity for improving the lives of the vulnerable in northern Uganda," Baharagate said.
He said the support from the general public could be in kind or cash.
