LANGO MPs have lashed out at President Yoweri Museveni's July 20 letter to Kony, saying its tone does not reflect willingness to talk peace.
The MPs, under the Lango Parliamentary Group chaired by Okullo Epak (Oyam South), called on the President to talk to Kony, saying that peace talks was the ultimate approach to conflict resolution.
"If you are an ardent analyst of communication, you should know that if, in your communication you start off with very serious conditions and reservations against each other, then the mind would not be set the right way."
"We may need a third party. I think the conditions on both sides are such that we can only hope that there is a commitment to peace talks," Epak said.
At a press conference held at Parliament yesterday, the MPs called for protection of their people from Kony attacks and cattle rustling activities.
"The people of Lango are not asking for anything extraordinary. They are asking for the Government to fulfil its constitutional duty to protect them, their lives and properties. They are also asking for equal and fair treatment," Epak said.
Omara Atubo (Otuke) said Otuke is now open to any raids, since the homeguards who the people raised from among themselves, were taken into the army without any consultations.
The MPs called on the donor community and humanitarian organisations to aid the social and economic needs of the Langi, since many who are traumatised from Kony's camps are without medical help. MPs Betty Amongi, Margaret Ateng, Omara Atubo, Charles Angiro and Butu Moye attended.
