UPDF soldiers from Gulu Division 4 barracks Sunday destroyed unspecified numbers of huts at Minakulu following the Saturday LRA attack in the area.

Reliable sources said the soldiers were accused of neglecting their work by hiding in the huts when the rebels attacked.

The soldiers' "wives" were also chased out of what remained of the army detach.

Kony rebels numbering close to 50 Saturday morning attacked Minakulu trading centre. The rebels broke into bars and drank local gin (waragi).

The Division 4 Intelligence Officer, Capt. Abdu Rugumayo, said that the detach was not destroyed but the women were chased out of it.

"I was at Minakulu personally, we did not destroy the huts but the women were removed. It's our policy to keep women away from their husbands, especially in war zones," he said over phone.

Meanwhile, 31 abductees were rescued from Pabbo, Kilak, in Gulu Aug. 18 after a brief UPDF encounter with the rebels.

The rebels at Acholi-Bur in Pader released another six abductees, while three escaped on Monday from Adak and Koro-Abili in Omoro County.
