ALL secondary and primary schools in Otuke and parts of Moroto counties in Lira district have been closed due to increased rebel attacks on the district, reports James Oloch and Wokorach Oboi.
The district secretary for education and sports, Rose Ongom, said recently that the school administrators decided to send their students home for fear of being abducted or killed by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels. She said schools in Erute North had also been affected. "The students were running up and down. Some were sleeping in swamps and they had to report back to school in the morning. We felt their security was at a risk," Ongom said.
Some of the secondary schools closed are Adwari, Otuke, Okwang, Aromo, Agweng, Comboni and St. Francis. Ends
