Lagos — In the last decade, developed countries have fought hard to battle the activities of tobacco companies in their countries. But these companies have found a new market in the third world, where they unleash the very thing rejected by their home countries, writes Yomi Owope

As is always the case when something new is blowing in the air, Nigerians are generally quick to want to know what it is, or to get involved, so as not to seem backward or old fashioned.Very often only a few who are truly aware of what is actually going on ask questions and get answers. The vast majority remain in the dark, believing what might well be a lie sandwiched carefully between half truths. The right to information is a right that people generally ignore, yet such information might well save lives in future, or help avoid some unnecessary disaster lurking somewhere near.
