Uganda: Govt in Move to Block Exiles On FM Radios

Kampala — The ministry of Information is formulating guidelines on broadcasting that are likely to bar exiles from being hosted on FM radio talk shows.

The move was disclosed by the Minister of State for Security, Muruli Mukasa, after he blocked a talk show organised by Mbarara based Radio West to host Kizza Besigye.

The show was scheduled for Wednesday.

When Radio West management invited Moses Byaruhanga, President Yoweri Museveni's political assistant, as a discussant they were told to stop the show. Radio West News Editor, Michael Bahinyoza said the minister rang them stopping the show on grounds that it may be a security risk.

Bahinyoza said Mukasa had informed them of the impeding guidelines.

Only last month a similar show was blocked at a Kampala based CBS radio.

Besigye has been hosted more than once on Monitor FM's Andrew Mwenda Live programme.
