Uganda: Masaka Man Denounces Islam

Kampala — MUSLIMS of Takajunge mosque in Bukoto subcounty Masaka district were on Wednesday shocked when one of their colleagues announced before Immams from Kabonera and Kisekka sub-counties that he had given up the religion.

Abdurahaman (now John) Lwasampijja, stood up in the mosque and said he could no longer stay in the religion which did not allow drinking alcohol.

He said his doctors, whom he did not name, had advised him to take alcohol but Islam did not allow him to do so.

He said he wanted to change religion to that which could give him enough freedom to take wine without hurting anyone.

After announcing his name change, he said he would soon be baptised at the St. Jude Cathedral in Bukoto.
