Angola: Meningitis Kills 20 People in Sendi

Lubango — Some 20 people, mostly children, died of meningitis during the last 15 days in Sendi village, Chipungo district of Angola's Southern Huila province, an health source announced here on Monday.

According to the Chief of the Directorate of Public Health and Control of Endemic Diseases, Avelino Muanecongo, a team with the National Vaccination Programm is already in the spot to vaccinate the population in order to avoid the spread of the sickness.

He added that, for this operation, they will count on Unicef's support which has already provided some vaccines.

Sendi's health centre is lacking essential medicines to assist about 30,000 inhabitants there.
