Uganda: Four LRA Rebels Killed in Bungatira

Kampala — FOUR suspected LRA rebels armed with three guns were on Friday night killed in Gulu Municipality and Bungatira sub-county in Aswa county, Gulu district, reports Dennis Ojwee.

The defence secretary for Twon-Okun sub-ward in Bungatira, John Ochen, gunned down three of the suspected rebels at Bungatira, about five kilometres on Gulu-Apita road.

Ochen, who is also a retired UPDF staff surgeon, told journalists at the scene that one of the three rebels dressed in military uniform, was a commander of the LRA who led the group to terrorise and loot civilian property from villages including his home.

He identified the rebel commander as Okot and another as Achaga p' Bwo and said others whom he could not identify, ran in disarray.

Ochen said the rebels struck his home between 11:00pm and midnight and ordered him out of his house, abducted him and took him to a nearby bush and ordered him to kill a chicken they had looted.

"When the rebels ordered me to kill the chicken, I realised that one of the rebels who had left his gun had turned his back to me. I grabbed the gun and opened fire, killing three of them on the spot," he said.
