Uganda: Ssebaana Warns Balokole On Noise

Kampala — Kampala mayor John Ssebaana Kizito has stood by his word that Balokole (born-again christians) stop praying at night because they cause noise pollution.

Ssebaana warned Pastor Simeon Kayiwa, chairman of the National Fellowship of Born Again Churches, against enticing his colleagues to defy the order.

"It is a pity that Pastor Kayiwa is advising born-again Christians to continue making noise and praying at night. There is a law, which governs all operations in the city and that is what we are implementing. The same law will deal with Kayiwa and the rest," Ssebaana said yesterday.

Kayiwa was last week quoted in the press as saying born-again Churches would not abide by Kampala City Council rules banning night prayers.

"No one is against praying. There is freedom of worship but it should not be misused. We have laws that govern everything. Noise pollution is not accepted," Ssebaana said.
