Uganda: Updf Free 10

Kampala — The UpdfF killed three LRA rebels on Sunday evening and rescued 10 captives at Pajok Two in Murchison National Park on the Karuma-Pakwach road.

The rebels were part of the group suspected to have ambushed the Nile Coach Bus 575 UED on Friday between Pajok Two and Ayago Bridge on the same road. Five passengers, one of them the driver, were killed.

Lt. Paddy Ankunda, the 4th Division spokesman, said the UPDF had been pursuing the rebels since the day of the ambush.

"We recovered one sharp machine gun including four magazines.

"Four LRA fighters surrendered on Sunday."

This brings to about 230 rebel captives rescued by the UPDF since September 16, and about 112 LRA fighters who have surrendered to security forces within the same period, the army added.

Security sources in Pakwach township in Nebbi district had last Friday said the rebel group that ambushed the bus numbered about 30.

Meanwhile, the death toll had gone up to nine by yesterday afternoon following an LRA ambush between Laguti and Okinga in Pader district, about 60 kilometres on the Gulu-Kitgum road on Saturday afternoon, local security sources and travellers from Kitgum town said yesterday.
