Gambia: Awards for Dancehall Masters And Freaky Joe

Banjul — It's now clear that dancehall music has been fully admitted into Gambia's youth file.

With Dancehall Masters and Freaky Joe scooping the prizes of last Saturdays West Coast Radio Music Awards, do we need more confirmations?

Happening simultaneously with the Kora Awards in South Africa, the unique event lured maximum crowd capacity at the Spy Bar. Hands down, it was an award that portrayed obvious difference.

'It wasn't an award ceremony of a long list of nomineous on various categories but a unique style of awards', says DJ Mo. 'We only gave out two awards. They are the awards for Best Demo Artist and Best Selling Artist.'

Freaky Joe won the Best Demo Artist Award while Dancehall Masters were awarded the Best Selling Group.

West Coast radio listeners who as well made the final choice did the nominations.

West Coast radio intends to sponsor the winners to certain level.

The night didn't wear the routine severer award face. There were group performances and dances from Malian rap group kid & co, dancehall masters and freaky Joe.
