Luanda — Thirty scientists of various nationalities left Luanda on Tuesday for Angola's southeastern Kuando-Kubango district of Mavinga, to view the solar eclipse on December 4.
Situated about 600 kilometres of the provincial capital city, Menongue, Mavinga will be the best locality of Angola for the observation of this natural phenomenon that will occur at 5:40 am.
To this effect, the local Government has created the necessary conditions in that area to accommodate the scientists and tourists travelling to Mavinga. This includes prefabricated houses, straw huts, makeshift leisure facilities and a large stand has been spared for the construction of camping tents.
Besides Kuando-Kubango, the December 4 solar eclipse will be partially viewed in the provinces of Kwanza- Sul, Huambo and Bie (centre), over a 60 kilometres wide strip.
Before travelling for the phenomenon, the foreign scientists attended in Luanda an international forum that analysed matters related to astronomy.
Menongue is about 1050 kilometres south of Luanda.
Kuito kuanavale, Cuchi, Cuangar, Longa, Mavinga, Cali, Dirico, Rivungo and Menongue, are the districts comprising the Kuando-Kubango province.
