Malange — The works on the river Lui bridge that connects the Angolan provinces of Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul (northeast) and Moxico (east), will be complete by next week, public works minister, Higino Carneiro, said on Monday.
The minister that visited the above mentioned region, added that those responsible for the works, that started in June this year, under the Angolan Roads Institute (INEA), will complete it before December 25.
The new metallic bridge is 68 metres long, and 3,80 wide and has the capacity to carry 30 tons, 18 more than the previous one that collapsed in May.
Break of traffic on the bridge, situated at Quela district, some 120 kilometres east of Malange (north) city, and the only connecting the northeastern provinces, has caused a lot of trouble to lorry drivers, traders and freighters operating in the region.
Meanwhile, ANGOP has learned that 185 trucks with various merchandise travelling from Luanda to Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul, are stranded by the bridge waiting for the completion of the works.
