Dundo — The constant rise in US Dollar and basic commodities prices is heavily troubling population in Angola's diamond-producing Lunda-Norte province specialy those with low incomes.
A survey conducted by Angop on Wednesday shows that the main markets in Dundo have seen a steady growth in prices both of the Dollar and of basic products.
A frozen chicken for instance is now costing 250 Angolan Kwanzas (AKZ) against the 180 from last week, whereas one kilogram of frozen fish climbed from AKZ 350 to 500. The same quantities of rice and sugar are purchased at 65 and 60 Kwanzas respectively.
The public opinion in the region has blamed the prices shooting on the collapsing of the bridge over the Lui river, that connects Luanda to the eastern provinces of the country.
