Uganda: UPDF Foil Kitgum LRA Raid

Kampala — THE UPDF foiled attempts by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels to attack Padibe sub-county, Lamwo county, about 20km north of Kitgum town on Saturday.

The rebels later abandoned their mission but attacked Ocet Toke trading centre, 8km north of Kitgum town.

Kitgum resident district commissioner Capt. Okot Lapolo told the New Vision on Sunday that the rebels burnt to ashes a Caltex fuel tanker and killed its turn-boy at Ogom, about 50km on the Kitgum-Gulu road.

Lapolo said the rebels also ambushed a Dyna pick-up truck at Bur Gweng, 26km south of Kitgum town, killing one child and injuring the mother.

Lapolo said Denis Akena who was also injured in the same ambush later died in hospital. Four other victims are still undergoing treatment in Kitgum hospital.

"Security personnel are on high alert and there is deployment to ensure that the rebels do not disturb the people," he said.
