Kampala — TRAUMATISED but free at last. Fifteen children rescued by the UPDF from Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) captivity met President Yoweri Museveni at his residence in Gulu recently.
The ten boys and five girls aged between 10 and 19 years were rescued at Latwala hills, west of Apieta village in Gulu district, Museveni's press secretary Mary Okurut said.
"They narrated to the President the traumatic experience they had at the hands of the LRA bandits. One of the children was in the group commanded by Vincent Otti, while others were in Joseph Kony's group that recently came from the Sudan," Okurut said.
The former captives who were accompanied by the 4th Division commanding officer, Col Andrew Guti, said they were rescued by the UPDF soldiers after a helicopter gunship blew up a rebel officer who was distributing arms to Kony's rebels at Apieta village.
