Kampala — President Yoweri Museveni has proposed that a protection force from a neutral country like Morocco, Egypt or Ethiopia be sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after the withdrawal of Ugandan troops.
The Minister of State for International Affairs, Tom Butime, said this while meeting visiting Danish MPs yesterday. The MPs led by Helga Moos had paid a courtesy call on him at his office on Workers House, Kampala.
Butime said, "We are looking to the withdrawal of Uganda's troops anytime. We wouldn't want to stay any longer because we have suffered enough."
Uganda's Ambassador to Denmark, Omar Migadde Lubulwa, attended the meeting.
Butime said the Government would have wanted the troops withdrawn by December 15, but the Secretary General of the UN had requested the forces to stay on until there was another force to take over the security of the country. He said Uganda had a battalion in Bunia and some troops on the Rwenzori mountain slopes.
