Kenya: Chaos Erupt At Mathare Church

Nairobi — Prayers at the Mathare North PCEA church were yesterday disrupted when two rival groups clashed.

Drama started when a section of the church which comprises the youth demanded the immediate removal of the church Pastor, Rev Efhantus Mugambi Muchiri and the resignation of entire committee of church elders.

The youth accused Reverend Mugambi and the church elders who they claim were imposed to the congregation by the former minister, Rev David Githii of misappropriating funds and harassing the youth.

Led by Steve Mwangi, the youths used concrete building blocks to barricade the church's main gate to block Reverend Mugambi and his group from entering the premises .

A notice that read; " Rev Mugambi, Elders Robert Wagucu, Edward Nderitu and Waishanguru Muhoya should keep off the church," was pinned at the gate.

Armed policemen from Muthaiga Police Station however intervened and enabled the church minister and his group to enter the compound .

Reverend Mugambi led the elders and a group of worshippers aligned to him into the church that is built with corrugated iron sheets and proceeded to conduct Service .

The Service was however disrupted by the youths who jeered and heckled him for over two hours .

The youths carried placards which read: "Holy thugs must go", "No confidence with Ruaraka session" , among others, sang and danced all through to ensure the service did not proceed .
