Luanda — Experts of 33 countries discuss in Luanda themes of tecnology and information
The UN's International Conference about " The Strenghtening of the Strategic capacity of competitiveness in the Communication and Information dominion" started Wednesday in Luanda, in a session marked by a speech of the Angolan vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chicoty.
The conference will take place up to the 17th of January and gathers experts from 33 countries members of the United Nations Commission of Science and Technology Working Towards Development (CSTD),the promotor of the meeting.
At this meeting, the Angolan experts will make an approach about the duties carried out in the last three years, in the Technology and Information area.
The conclusions of this meeting will be presented in the world conference about "Information Society" taking place in December 2003, in Geneva (Switzerland) and in Jamaica in 2005, in a meeting on the same theme.
CSTD is one of United Nations's Functional Commissions of the Economic and Social council (ECOSOC) which has as priorities the transfer of technology and development of the infra-structures capacity in the science dominion, fundamentally for the developing countries. The commission was created in 1994 for a mandate of four years.In each session,the institution elects a bureau made of a president and four vice-presidents. At the moment, Sri Lanka is in the presidency, while the four vice-presidencies in charge are Angola, Paraguay, Slovakia and Spain.
Angola ceases its mandate this year.
