Africa Film Series on Public TV

San Francisco — In February of 2003 a unique three program series of films by acclaimed African directors will be broadcast on PBS. The series entitled Africa in the Picture will be a pathbreaking event in American television history, marking the first national broadcast of African films ever. Produced and presented by San Francisco-based distributor California Newsreel and broadcaster KQED respectively and introduced by Danny Glover. " Join me for the first national broadcast of African cinema, featuring stories that weave together the spirit of Africa and the social challenges of contemportary life. It's a vision of Africa through African eyes", says Danny Glover. Besides being and actor, Mr. Glover is President of the Board of the Africa advocacy organization, TransAfrica and a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme.
