Nigeria: Politics of Domestic Terminal

Lagos — AVIATION Minister, Dr. Kema Chikwe's burning desire to showcase an ultra-modern domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Ikeja as "dividend of democracy" got a severe blow on May 23, 2002 when the N2.6 billion contract awarded to Royal Sanderton Ventures Limited was revoked.

The revocation of the terminal contract was the climax of "irreconcilable differences" between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Sanderton Ventures that had dragged on for sometime now. The Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Ibrahim Mamman who announced the revocation of the contract accused Sanderton of non-performance.
