Mozambique: Nacala Corridor Traffic Interrupted Again

Maputo — Traffic along the railway from the northern Mozambican port of Nacala to Malawi, which reopened on Monday after three weeks of interruption following a derailment, was again suspended on Thursday due to faults detected in the repair work on the damaged stretch of track.

Cited by the Maputo daily "Noticias", the director of the northern branch of the publicly owned Mozambican rail company (CFM-Norte), Arlindo Fondo, said that the heavy rains in the northern region caused the collapse of the drainage system on the Mutivaze stretch, some 30 kilometres west of Nampula city, which raises concern over the security of the traffic.
