Nigeria: Ozekhome, Two Others Vie for Edo ANPP Deputy Gov's Slot

Abuja — THREE persons: Mr Mike Ozekhome, Mr Tunde Lakoju and Mr. Niyi Momodu, are vying for the deputy governor's slot on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) Edo state governorship ticket held by Senator Roland Owie. The running mate to Senator Owie in the scheduled April 19 gubernatorial elections will be announced today after the party must have taken a decision on the issue. Vanguard gathered in Abuja that there had been intense lobbying by the trio of Ozekhome, Lakoju and Momodu, all from Edo North senatorial district to which the deputy governor's slot has been zoned.

But there were strong indications that the party is disposed to picking Lakoju, who is the only ANPP member of the House of Representatives from Edo state. He hails from Akoko Edo, which has become the only local government from the old Bendel state and now Edo state that has not been split.
