Nairobi — Armed Forces Amateur Boxing Association (Afaba) and Nairobi each placed four boxers to the semi finals of the Kenya novices boxing championship at the Kahawa Barracks Gymnasium, Nairobi on Friday.

The championship has attracted 68 boxers drawn from six branches - Nairobi, Coast, Afaba, Police, Central and Rift Valley. Notable absentees were Prisons and Nyanza.

A makeshift Eastern team from Machakos was refused participation because it was not affiliated to any branch. It was discovered that some of the boxers in the team had not been in the ring before not had they ever worn boxing head gear.
