Kenya: Indian Professional Colleges Hold Fairs

Nairobi — The High Commission of India in conjunction with the Educational Consultants India Limited, will today and tomorrow host a solo education fair of India's top professional colleges in Nairobi.

The event, dubbed Education India 2003 Fair, takes place at the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi. Educational Consultants India Limited is a government agency which markets the country's education.

And on Monday and Tuesday, next week, a similar event will be held at Mombasa's Aga Khan Sports and Cultural Centre.

A spokesman at the Indian High Commission in Nairobi, Shri Chand, said currently over 7,000 Kenyans are studying in various colleges in India and that between 400 and 450 Kenyan students join Indian colleges every year.

He said Indian colleges, both private and public offer some of the highest quality training in professional courses as demonstrated by the big demand for Indian trained computer engineers and IT experts in Europe and the US. He said the Government has a strict education quality assurance agency which ensures colleges offer the highest standards of training.

This will be the second educational exhibition by Indian colleges in Kenya. A similar one was held last year. He said such an event not only promotes India-Kenya relations but helps in the exchange and sharing of skills between the two nations.
