Zimbabwe: Westerhof Appointed Lions Technical Advisor

Former Dynamos player Clayton Munemo has been given the post of juniors coach. But it was the arrival of Westerhof, 62, which was the talking point. The former Dynamos coach was last week being linked to a possible move to his old club, but in the end, the Harare giants settled for Zambian Keagan Mumba for the post of head coach.

Chris Goromonzi, the vice-chairman of Lions, said Westerhof signed a two-year contract. Lloyd Mutasa (coach), Calisto Pasuwa (player/coach) and Brenna Msiska (assistant coach) will remain in their positions. Goromonzi said: "We have faith in Mutasa, Msiska and Pasuwa but we needed someone with international experience to impart knowledge on them." He said they wanted Lions to be recognised as a successful professional club both at home and in Africa. Goromonzi said: "As you know last year we ended up fighting relegation. We want to prevent a situation where everyday will be a survival day." Westerhof last coached Harare United, a Northern Region Division One side. He left the side when his work permit expired.
