South Africa: Partnerships in Local Government

London — A partnership agreement between the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and the UK Local Government International Bureau (LGIB) has become the first project under the new phase of the Commonwealth Local Government Good Practice Scheme. The agreement was signed by Thabo Mokwena, Chief Executive, SALGA and Mike Ashley, Director, LGIB in early March 2003.

The project aims to develop SALGA's capacity to engage in international work through links between municipalities in South Africa and abroad; the management of incoming local government delegations; and the dissemination of good practice in international links.
