Addis Ababa — Two flights each carrying 70,000 tons food donation from the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia arrived here on Thursday.
His Excellency Ambassador Salah Ahmed Sarhan of Saudi Arabia handed the aid to the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Commission (DPPC) as part of the emergency relief program for the drought affected areas.
Last Friday the first flight carrying 35,000 tons of wheat flour, rice, sugar, milk powder and vegetable oil arrived here.
Ambassador Sarhan said: "This aid is to show the commitment of the Saudi government to help the drought affected areas in Ethiopia."
Ambassador Salah told The Daily Monitor that it is the intension of Saudi Arabia to continue helping Ethiopia with assistance during its time of need.
"We haven't decided exactly where we are going to send this aid. But right now the most drought stricken areas are the East Hararge Zone in Oromiya and East Gojam, Ato Wegayhu Belay fundraising team leader at the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Commission said.
