Kampala — Women delegates from 10 African countries meet in Kampala this week to prepare a documentary on women's peace initiatives on the continent.
The Women's International Cross-Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE) Uganda Chapter is organising the event due 23-25 April at Hotel Equatoria.
Through the documentary, the women aim to adopt plans on how to research, document and disseminate information on some of the unique peace efforts by women.
"We believe that Isis-WICCE does not have all the answers to the plight of women," said Ms Jessica Nkuhe, the Isis-WICCE exchange programme co-ordinator in a 17 April statement. "But through this exchange, we are hoping that women from all these other countries can be of more help."
The meeting draws participants from Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Ms Nkuhe said that the meeting is expected to find out where the successful initiatives are, how they should be documented and how to use the documentary to advocate better policies.
Since 1999, Isis-WICCE has organised training institutes for selected women in leadership positions to acquire skills to engage in sustainable peace processes at the national and regional levels.
Isis-WICCE is an international women's resource centre that was established in 1974 and relocated to Africa in 1993 to tap voices of African women, and as such the documentation of women's realities.
