Nigeria: My New Cabinet Will Be On Merit - Obasanjo

Abuja — President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday gave a picture of his incoming administration in the areas of appointments and economy saying that all appointments into the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will be done on merit and not based on party affiliation. He also said that agriculture will receive priority attention in the new administration.

Obasanjo, who addressed a World Press Conference to express gratitude to the Nigerian media on their performance in the coverage of the elections so far conducted, said, "when in my address I stretched hands of fellowship to other contestants, it means I will recognise them as worthy opponents, worthy Nigerians and contestants. They have come out and had a fair contest in which there must be one winner."
