Uganda: World Court Yet to Decide On DRC Case

Kampala — THE Attorney General, Francis Ayume, has said the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is yet to decide on how the DR Congo case filed against Uganda for illegal occupation, should proceed.

Ayume, who returned from the Hague, Netherlands on Sunday, said he and his counterpart from the DRC met with the ICJ president to discuss issues of procedure.

"We met the world court president in his chambers but no decision was made because the president wanted to first consult other members of the court and then send us the feedback," Ayume said.

The Government recently asked the DRC to drop the case in an effort to normalise relations between Kampala and Kinshasa.

The late President Laurent Kabila's government filed an application in the ICJ on June 23, 1999, accusing Uganda of armed aggression, human rights violation and of illegal exploitation of the DRC's natural resources.
