Kampala — The National Council for Higher Education has published a list of universities and other tertiary institutions and warned the public against enrolling in illegal institutions of learning.
The Executive Director of National Council for Higher Education Prof. A.B.K. Kasozi said in a 2 May release, that 17 universities have, so far, been licensed and allowed to award degrees and issue other academic certificates.
Prof. Kasozi gave universities up to 31 May to register.
"Secondly, all licensed and operating universities and tertiary institutions are required, under section 131 (1) a, to apply for a charter or certificate of classification," reads the release.
The 17 universities that are dully licensed are; Makerere, Mbarara, Kyambogo and Gulu under the category of public universities.
Licensed private universities are; Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Kigezi International School of Medicine, Bugema University, Uganda Christian University, Busoga University, Namassagali University, Ndejje University, Uganda Martyrs University, Kampala University, Aga Khan Campus University, Nkumba University and Kampala International University.
Prof. Kasozi also gave the list of legal national teachers colleges, technical colleges, agricultural institutions, forestry institutes, management institutes and cooperative colleges. He listed hotel and tourism institutes, vocational training institutes and heath sector training institutes.
