Nairobi — Of all the social reforms the Narc administration has attempted in the past seven months, none can be as significant as taking destitute children off the streets and training them to become useful members of society again.

At the National Youth Service Training College in Gilgil, young people who had previously lived off garbage in filth and sloth are being turned into disciplined, ambitious and responsible young citizens. In a few more days, the first 300 former street persons who were recruited into the NYS will be graduating after their basic training course. They have dreams and they have hopes and they are making plans for their lives.
