Nigeria: Kalu And Abia Pipeline Tragedy

Democracy in Nigeria should be fine-tuned tackle the problem of poverty in the country....

GOVERNOR Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, reacting to the pipeline disaster that claimed over 200 lives in Onicha Amaiyi Uhuara, Isikwuato Local Government, stressed that the magnitude and frequency at which pipeline explosions occur have become not just frightening, but a major emerging economic problem that must be tackled. While condemning in strong terms vandalisation of oil pipeline for whatever reason, he attributed the incident largely to poverty which has forced people to do all sorts of things to eke out a living.
