Pray, can anyone who is knowledgeable in such matters, tell me the name of the current fashion that arrive the Nigerian shores, the fashion of young and not so young women wearing tops that clearly reveal their breasts?
What in hell is the name of this latest style? I had occasion recently to ask a woman of God that when the ladies go to the tailors to make such tops, how do they describe that kind of dress they want made, to the tailor? Do they say, "Make for me a blouse that will show my breasts"?
If that is the way they describe it, do they blush, stammer or do they say it with a straight face?
If I am told the name of this style, which I am convinced, was cleverly designed by Satan, may I also know what the style is aimed at? In this era of the mythical Great Male Shortage, in these harsh great times when a strange disease called No husbandnosomiasis has broken out, is it meant to seduce unwilling men to pay attention to obviously frustrated sisters?
Two weekends ago, I was invited to a function that was supposed to be a reception for political high flyers from my part of the country who are in Abuja. When I got there, I nearly turned back in utter embarrassment. It was as if I was invited to a Breasts Fair.
Dear reader, I saw something aplenty with my trained, critical journalistic eyes. I saw all shapes and sizes of breasts, courtesy of the ladies who were there and who wore short blouses with spaghetti sleeves clearly designed to cover nothing.
When some of the ladies who knew me came over to greet me, I cut a pathetic picture. I had to make supreme efforts to avert my eyes from looking at them in the northern region. Any trained observer looking at me and my encounter with the ladies would have thought that I was a shy lover engaging my first date!
This new fashion in town is a disgusting one. It is surprising to me that not many men and women of God are thundering against this new dress sense from their pulpits. I can only recall that it is only about three weeks ago that I heard Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis Church preaching against some of our ladies' poor dressing.
I am specifically calling on Christian leaders to preach against this evil fashion because a greater majority of women who wear these obscene dresses call themselves Christians.
It is unfortunate that many Christians tend to see Western permissive attitudes such as indecent dressing, as part of the Christian package. They often fail to realise that the moral majority even in the United States, the capital of modern Sodom and Gomorrah, are deeply opposed to sexual and other forms of immorality.
Satan is truly a very cunning being. Everyday he devices new methods of ensnaring the weak and the ignorant to become his followers. Fashion and advertisements are today, great and effective tools of deception in his hands.
He has manipulated the minds of fashion-conscious ladies to proudly believe that you have to flaunt what you have. Which is why we daily see blouses that are cut too low and slits on skirts that are notches too high. Which is why we also see body-kissing dresses that photocopy the graphic details of a lady's anatomy, leaving little or nothing to the imagination of lascivious men.
We live in perilous times and some of us who have made a decision not to sell our souls to Satan, have to perfect a strategy of looking without seeing. For if you elect to see, you will behold sights that will lead you straight to hell.
What makes the situation truly frightening is that it seems both parents and religious leaders have given up even without a lame fight. Many parents do not want to be thought old-fashioned so they are dissuaded from cautioning their daughters against indecent dressing.
Church leaders are afraid of being thought too "holy-holy" so they adopt a dangerously liberal attitude towards ladies who violate acceptable dress code.
Have our consciences been seared with electric iron and have therefore become calloused? Is this society bereft of men and women with righteous indignation? If not so, why are there no NGOs to rile against indecent dressing and immoral conduct among our ladies? Have we come to agree that ours is a society where everything is permitted?
Is there no one zealous enough for the righteous God? Can we all sit down and watch helplessly as our ladies corrupt the morals of men, arousing the base instinct of men in the name of fashion?
Is it part of fundamental human rights for one sex to play on the emotions of another without paying any price? Is it correct for women to blatantly bare their charms to every passing male gender? If it is not right for them to do so, how come we tend to celebrate fashion fads designed to precisely do just that?
When I was growing up, I met the blouse style called "Show me your back," in which a roundish cut was made on a young lady's blouse to reveal their back.
Later on, I also got to see a skirt or gown style called "Cross no gutter." This was a tight-fitting dress style designed to reveal the ladies' laps. The skirts or gowns were made so short and so tight that a lady could not decently cross any gutter, hence the name.
The mini style came and went in various forms until we arrived at a version called the "micro-mini" which is a form of skirts designed to cover nothing: No woman dressed in this style can ever sit comfortably in any public place but they go to great lengths to appear in them.
We are now in the era of "show your breasts." And in the past few months since this fad came into being, we have been seeing quite a sightful: Sagging breasts, pointed breasts, boil-like breasts, bulbous breasts, slippers-like breasts, avocado-shaped breasts, orange-shaped breasts and many more.
I wish to pause here and warn that my language in this piece may offend the sensibilities of some souls but I have deliberately adopted such to show my disgust. The point has been reached where somebody has to speak out against a clear evil in a language shorn of euphemism.
Now that out ladies have let us see the kinds of breasts they have on offer, can they now begin to wear something that will cover that region?
For reason which I have already given, let me once again advise our Christian sisters that corrupt and corruptive western values are not synonymous with Christianity. It is clearly stated in the Bible that a woman should dress decently or modestly. The kinds of dresses some of our Christian sisters wear do not in anyway glorify God.
A good number of them are a source of distraction and irritation to those who go to church to worship God. They are a vessel of dishonour to God. Let the Christian girls take a cue from their Muslim sisters who cover the intimate parts of their bodies yet look so decent and appealing.
Miles Munroe, the giant of the Christian faith who is called the Apostle of Purpose, lamented in one of his books whose title I cannot readily remember now, what he described as the apparent training of our females in the art of deception.
Great efforts seems to be made to teach ladies how to trick men into a relationship, whether short-term or long-term. That is why today from the crown of a woman's head to the sole of her feet, she may be other than who she appears to be.
Today, a woman who is not endowed with hairs may wear an expansive wig to give a false impression of a forest of lush hairs. We also know of false nails, false breasts, false skins and even false buttocks!
This act of great deception may explain why some marriages never last beyond a few weeks. Who you thought was a strikingly beautiful lady may become a poor imitation of who you thought you saw when she removes all her false gears!
Can any man or woman who has a gift of teaching explain to me and many other persons who are similarly ignorant, why the modern woman goes to such great length to invite the attention of men. Is it that modern man has become too pre-occupied with the daily struggles for survival that he has no time to admire the fair daughters of Eve?
Or is it that women feel that since they outnumber men, they must employ some tricks in order to win a good prize: a worthy man?
Let somebody also tell me what "fashion statement" does any lady make by baring her breasts to unauthorised eyes?
I am waiting for answers.
This piece will be concluded next week under the title, "Priestess or Prostitutes?"
