ZANO Rangu Sounds, a sungura music group from Chivi, will represent Masvingo province in the Chibuku Road to Fame finals to be held in Harare.
Led by the visually impaired Runesu Chigariro, the five-member band outclassed 11 other groups at the provincial finals held here last weekend. The provincial finals were sponsored by Chibuku Breweries.
Zano Rangu Sounds walked away $100 000 richer, while Jakata Jazz Band and the Trinity Rastas received $75 000 and $50 000 respectively.
Zano Rangu Sounds surprised most people when a female band member played the bass guitar in a way that can match the likes of bass maestro Alick Macheso.
Chibuku Road to Fame is an annual event which is organised by the National Arts Council in conjunction with Chibuku Breweries which seeks to identify hidden talents from the less-privileged members of society.
The winners at the national finals, scheduled for Harare, will get $1 million and a recording contract.
Chigariro, who has never recorded an album due to lack of resources, said that he was happy that at last he had managed to get a chance to lure sponsors from Harare as he was expecting to steal the hearts of many.
"I feel happy now, at last my group will be in a position to get sponsorship from well-wishers because in Harare we are going to do what we know best.
"We are confident that nothing will stop us from winning the top prize and, more importantly, the recording contract," he said.
Atkins Chimhandamba, Chibuku brand manager, said the aim of the competition was to try and identify untapped talents.
"There are great musicians who have latent talents which we would like to expose so that they increase competition within the music industry," he said.
