Nigeria/Liberia: Weah Restates Love for Eagles' Job

LIBERIAN former World Footballer of the year, George Opong Weah, has once again restated his desire to handle Nigeria's Super Eagles insisting that it will afford him the opportunity to develop one of Africa's greatest sides. Speaking to Sports Vanguard in an exclusive interview at Accra's Golden Tulip Hotel, Weah noted that he was capable of handling the Super Eagles.

"Nigeria is one of the biggest names in African football and I know I'm capable of coaching the Super Eagles. I can do the job."

He added that, "I will not look at the fact that it is Nigeria. I will look at the fact that it is an African team that needs to be developed and that's all." Weah, who has solely sponsored the Lone Star (Liberian National team) for several years to international competitions also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria for its role in resolving the fratricidal war in Liberia.

"I'm grateful for the part Nigeria has always played in Liberia politics. The efforts they made to make the Liberian people happy in terms of beautiful things, a true democratic process, it showed they are the true giant of Africa.

Nigeria is the super power in Africa and I respect that and my prayer is that Nigeria will continue to grow.

"I have visited Nigeria a lot o times and people that were supposed to be in refugee camp now have their own homes. They are going to school and all that. These are good things and I will continue to pray that Nigeria will be one of the greatest countries ever in Africa because they practice true democracy and I hope that other African countries will emulate their good examples for Africa to be a safe place."
