Nairobi — Kenya has destroyed its entire stock of anti-personnel landmines, two
years ahead of its own deadline.
National Security assistant minister Stephen Tarus said the country
completed the destruction of 35,774 mines stock last month in "controlled
and environmentally friendly detonation". The country had set July 1, 2005,
as the date by which it intended to have destroyed all its mine
stockpiles.
