Nairobi — Association of Media Women in Kenya (Amwik) is working towards establishing a resource centre for its members.
The resource centre to be housed in the association's offices at Hughes Building, Kenyatta Avenue, will provide members with a library and internet access, to enrich their stories.
Amwik Chairperson Lilian Nduta said this is in line with the association's vision of promoting the right to and use of information, to create a society that has equitable access to opportunities.
She made the observation while receiving a computer worth Sh70,000, donated by Mini Bakeries Limited.
Thanking the company for their "good gesture", Nduta noted the computer was the first towards equipping the resource centre and called on others to emulate the bakers.
"Most of our members don't have the right tools to enable them discharge their duties efficiently. Establishing a resource centre, will not only equip them but also help the association in some of its programmes which are internet-based," she said.
While handing over the computer, Mini Bakeries legal officer Ms Elka Motanya noted the company does community-based work, as a way of giving back to the community.
She noted they had worked together with Amwik in the Mothers United Against Drug Abuse caucus, encouraging the association to be free to call upon them as need arises.
