Mozambique: Nutrition is Key in Fighting Against HIV/Aids

Maputo — One of the challenges faced by activists in the fight against HIV/AIDS is that people do not listen to any preaching on this matter while they are busy solving their most pressing daily need - finding enough food to stay alive.

This was the view of Nyeleti Mondlane, of the "Vida Positiva" (Positive Life) programme, speaking in Maputo on Monday, at the opening of a three day conference on the theme: "HIV and AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa: Are We Turning the Tide?" Mondlane argued "it is difficult to work with hungry people", and this is why "Vida Positiva" is putting the top priority on guaranteeing food security as a means of winning people to listen to the message on HIV/AIDS.
