Benguela — Angop's general director, Manuel Miguel de Carvalho "Wadijimbi", manifested the opinion that the emergence of the Internet represented an extra valuable tool for journalists, having defended the idea of frequent access of journalists to this digital instrument.
Manuel de Carvalho was addressing the 100 delegates to the 3rd Cycle of Technical and Scientific Meetings of the Social Communication sector, speaking on the subject "Modernization, Internationalization and Management of the Media".
On his opinion, since the Internet is of great worth for journalists, the information technology should facilitate the access, selection, organisation and broadcasting of information, aiming at improving the media management.
He said that the indicated path to win the challenges of computerized information is by setting up infrastructures, technologies and staff training, so as to facilitate the access to the codes and tools of the digital world and the new culture on information.
Angop's director emphasized that the Internet brought about the digital journalism and that "To start using the computer is the first step", taking into consideration the winds of globalization.
He spoke about digital journalism, the situation with the social communication organs in Angola, having admitted that there is a great effort from the professionals of this sector to modernize it, so as to overcome the "Natural Barriers" inherent to the new technological challenges on the information field.
As regard to the challenges on information technology at regional level in Africa, Wadijimbi defended the need for an urgent solution, in television, in terms of regional of regional broadcastings to Luanda as well as the setting up of regional printing-offices for the reproduction of the public Jornal De Angola newspaper, and consequently the proliferation of local newspapers.
According to Angop's director, the modernization and internationalization of the media is already a fact in Luanda, whereas, at the level of the southern Africa region there is still a lot to be done.
Meanwhile, the journalist David Borges, speaking on the same subject, said that a journalist must primarily take into consideration aspects such as "Strictness" and "Exemption" in reporting the facts, so as to safe-guard the public interest.
The 3rd Cycle of Technical and Scientific Meetings of the Social Communication sector, taking place in the southern Benguela province, will end on Friday.
Today participants are touching on pertinent topics such as "The possibilities and the range of Radio broadcasting, regional journalism and strategies to dynamize the regional press".
On Friday the main themes under discussion will be "The current problems in the Angolan journalism" and "The correspondent and the local reality".
