Kampala — MPS have warned donors against pressuring the Government into legalising homosexuality.
The MPs were reacting to a concern raised by Henry Basaliza Araali (Fort Portal Municipality) in reference to yesterday's New Vision story on the subject.
The paper quoted the Director of the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, Livingstone Sewanyana, as saying donors were currently pressurising Uganda to legalise the malpractice.
Araali called upon MPs to condemn the act, saying homosexuality was against the African culture.
"This is not the time to embrace such bad culture," he said, adding that the solution was to counsel homosexuals.
Stephen Malinga (Butebo), said homosexuality was a criminal act and those engaged in it should be arrested and prosecuted. Emmanuel Dombo (Bunyole), said, "Under no circumstances shall we be intimidated by donors."
Miria Matembe (Mbarara) concurred, saying when she was minister of ethics and integrity she tried to close the rendezvous of homosexuals.
Tim Lwanga, ethics and integrity minister, said the law would not be changed unless Parliament decided so.
