Ghana: Scancom Slashes Call Rates 25 Percentage

Scancom Ghana limited, operators of Spacefon have reduced its call rates by 25% as part of a comprehensive package to celebrate the seven years of the company's existence in the country.

Starting this month customers would pay ¢937.50 for a thirty second call during peak periods and ¢625 cedis for off peak periods, as against ¢1250 and ¢937.50 for the old rates, management has said.

Additionally the price of Spacefon starter packs have been reduced from ¢270,000 to ¢170,000.

The new rates make Spacefon the lowest GSM service provider by way of call charges in the country.

Also for the month of November, 100 customers selected through Spacefon Special Anniversary SMS promotion, will be given free 240 units each day.

Other activities lined up to celebrate seven years of the company's existence, include donations to selected Foster Homes and a party for street kids in Accra.

Spacefon entered the Ghana telecom industry in 1996 with the introduction of the first GSM (Global system for mobile communications) network and by dint of hard work, boundless creativity and continuous innovation; it has taken the market by storm.

Spacefon has become the most dominant network in Ghana with the introduction of SNAP and the provision of thousands of people with affordable access to telephone facilities.

Spacefon is the only mobile phone operator in the country with subscribers in excess of 450,000 and has deployed its services in most key towns and cities in all ten regions of the country.
